Co-Ed from September 2026

Shrewsbury High School is delighted to start accepting boys into Junior School, Year 7 and Year 12 from September 2026.

Co-Ed
At Shrewsbury High School, we will continue to uphold the highest standards of academic and pastoral excellence for which we are recognised, while preparing for an exciting next chapter which includes a move to coeducation – thoughtfully planned out and carefully overseen. Initially we will welcome boys from September 2026 into our Junior School and into years 7 and 12 of our Senior School.

Juniors

From September 2026, we will be welcoming boys into every level of our Junior School where they will be able to receive the same high standards of junior education that our girls have enjoyed.

Seniors

From September 2026, we will be welcoming boys into Year 7 of our Senior School. This smooth transition to co-education will ensure high quality education for existing students while allowing new boys to experience our superb facilities and curriculum.

Sixth Form

From September 2026, we will be welcoming boys into Year 12 of our Sixth Form.  By giving boys the same opportunities to access our expert teachers, one-to-one support and facilities, we will provide new opportunities for both boys and girls to succeed

Co-Ed FAQs

  • Through consultation with all stakeholders –including parents, pupils, and staff –  the Junior School will offer co-education across all year groups from September 2026, while the Senior School takes a more gradual approach, initially welcoming boys into Year 7 and Year 12 for the next academic year.

Therefore, for current students in years 7-10 the first time they will be in a co-ed year group will be in year 12.

  • What makes SHS special, our culture and our philosophy, remains unchanged. The heart of who we are will endure. Parents have often told us that they choose SHS not simply because we have been an all-girls’ school, but because of what we stand for: the empowerment of every individual, the ambition we hold for every pupil, and the warmth and spirit of our community. And as such, our aims and ethos which sit at the heart of all we do remain steadfast.

Pupils at Shrewsbury High School will continue to benefit from our brilliant SHS alumnae community who will continue to share their expertise and advice from across their many varied careers.  We now have the exciting opportunity to build new links with ILG schools, and much more widely with schools across the UK and internationally, beyond the GDST network.

  • Junior School class sizes vary depending on the classroom space and year group. As the school grows, we remain fully committed to our philosophy of maintaining small class sizes, ensuring that every child is known, supported, and challenged appropriately by their teacher.

  • Girls and Boys will have separate changing rooms and toilets.  The ILG team are working with the school to identify practical solutions and spaces to accommodate these facilities.

  • Inspired Learning Group (ILG) is comprised of 22 independent schools and 9 standalone nurseries, making them one of the largest independent school groups in the UK. They are a respected provider of outstanding independent co-education delivering a rich education and inspiring students in a nurturing environment. They have demonstrated incredible commitment to ensuring Shrewsbury High School goes from strength to strength, staying true to its values and maintaining outstanding education provision.

ILG is known for creating safe and inspiring educational environments. Its schools are recognised for combining traditional values with progressive thinking to support students in achieving their full potential. You can find out more about ILG at Part of the ILG Family.
