From New Orleans to Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury High School’s membership of the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools has seen the development of our blossoming partnership with McGehee Girls’ School in New Orleans, where faculty projects and teaching and learning practices are being shared, alongside exchange programmes for our girls to build relationships with their US peers. In June we welcomed two members of staff and four pupils from McGehee for a week’s visit with us at SHS, with four SHS families hosting the girls in their homes. You can read more about their visit at Transatlantic Friendship Blossoms: SHS Hosts McGehee Girls’ for an Unforgettable Week!
SHS staff have been building relationships with their US colleagues across all areas of the school to share ideas and create meaningful ways for growing shared initiatives and activities to provide SHS and McGehee girls with valuable and enriching opportunities.
A global movement in girls’ education
Shrewsbury High School is a founding member of the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools and every year more than 500 representatives of girls’ schools from 15 countries join together to share research, connect and collaborate globally with individuals and schools who are dedicated to educating and empowering girls.
At the ICGS conference 2024, Shrewsbury High School’s Junior Head Kate Millichamp was asked to present to the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools conference in Cleveland, USA, on the power of play to grow successful and happy young people. She was joined by Head of RPE and PSHE at Shrewsbury High, Carla Tonks, a GARC (Global Action Research Collaborative) research fellow who looked at strengthening resilience to change in year 9 girls.
