From the lead roles to the ensemble, the performances were full of warmth, and humour, reflecting months of dedication and hard work led by our Director of Drama Esther Labbé and our Director of Music Chris Bunn. Our thanks also go to the technical crew and staff from across the school whose commitment behind the scenes ensured the production ran so smoothly and looked so impressive.
Productions such as this highlight the powerful role the arts play in school life – nurturing creativity, teamwork, resilience and self-belief. We are immensely proud of every student involved and grateful to all those who supported the production.
Legally Blonde was a wonderful showcase of talent and teamwork, and one that will be remembered for a long time. A full write up in next week’s newsletter.
As we head into the bank holiday weekend, we also wish our year 11 students all the very best of luck as they leave us for GCSE exam leave. Today, there has been the traditional shirt signing, celebration lunch and games by the Pavilion before the girls joined together in the Old Hall for a final assembly. We send them our very best wishes for the weeks ahead. Year 11 – you are ready! This is the moment to show what you know, trust your preparation and take care of yourselves. We are immensely proud of you and look forward to celebrating your achievements soon.
Wishing all of our students, staff and parents a restful long weekend.

The Arts Society Shrewsbury Schools’ Competition & Exhibition
Organised and sponsored by The Arts Society Shrewsbury, the exhibition will take place on Saturday 16th May: 12noon – 3pm. This is a competition for Y10 art students; the aim of which is to encourage and highlight the talents of our young artists.
The Arts Society Shrewsbury will judge the show and have prizes to award, with Shrewsbury High School hosting the event. We will have local dignitaries in attendance for the event to recognise and celebrate the great work the children of Shropshire are doing in their art classes.
The competition is open to Shrewsbury and Shropshire schools and we have the following schools taking part: BLOOM, Bridgnorth Endowed, Charlton School, Community College Bishops Castle, Concord College, Idsall School, Lakelands Academy, Priory School, Shrewsbury High School, Shrewsbury Academy, Shrewsbury School, Thomas Adams School and Sir John Talbot’s School. Shrewsbury College students will be photographing the event on the day.
It is not too late for other Shrewsbury or Shropshire schools to get involved: they can email Mr Millichamp on j.millichamp@shrewsburyhigh.co.uk for more information (the deadline is 5th May). This is a great chance for students to have their work shown in a professional setting and potentially win prizes and a great opportunity to showcase students’ talents and give them an experience of what exhibiting artwork is like.

“This opportunity is extremely exciting for me, and I feel incredibly pleased and honoured to have been selected for the competition. I have always loved to draw and paint, and gaining recognition for my art has been a dream of mine since I was very young. This painting that has been selected is a tribute to one of my idols, David Bowie, whose music and style I find inspiring.”

‘I am really pleased to have been selected. I really enjoy art and have found it really interesting to work with contrasting colours, and that’s why I chose to paint the Coke can.’

Bake Sale for Sudan
On Thursday 7th May (at breaktime in the lecture space) Hanin in y13 is organising a cake sale to help raise desperately needed funds and awareness concerning the war that is currently happening in Sudan. Hanin is Sudanese and the war has personally affected her family, forcing them to abandon their homes which has caused some to be robbed and destroyed in the process. She has chosen kidney aid specifically, as her father has suffered with kidney problems and has also been a volunteer for this charity by raising money for the purchase of dialysis machines and treatments all across Sudan. She would appreciate any support, so please bring cash to treat yourself!
National Thank a Teacher Day
Later this term we will be celebrating National Thank a Teacher Day and in preparation, we are reaching out to our community for shout outs to recognise the brilliant staff we have at Shrewsbury High School.
If there are staff members (teaching or non-teaching) who have gone above and beyond to support your daughter this year, it would be lovely for them to be acknowledged by completing the following form: National Thank a Teacher Day 2026 – Fill in form
