Friday 27th February 2026

The welcome return of sunshine this week has certainly lifted spirits across the school.

Brighter mornings and lighter afternoons seem to bring an extra energy to our community, and it has been wonderful to see students making the most of the fresh air and positive mood that a hint of spring always brings.

As we look ahead to National Careers Week, we are excited to be placing a strong focus on helping our students think not just about what they might do in the future, but who they want to become. Throughout the week students will take part in a range of activities designed to broaden horizons, build confidence and develop the skills that will help them thrive in a rapidly changing world from curiosity and creativity to resilience and collaboration.

However some of the most powerful career conversations happen not in classrooms but around the dinner table. We warmly encourage families to continue these discussions at home. Talk about your own career journeys, the twists and turns along the way, what you enjoy about your work and the skills you use every day. These conversations help young people see that careers are rarely straight lines and that exploring interests, values and strengths is an important part of the journey.

Together school and home can help our students connect their learning to the wider world, reflect on what motivates them and begin to shape a future that is both successful and fulfilling.

Have a lovely weekend.

U15 County Champions!

This week our U15 netball team stormed to victory in the county championship final showing control, amazing teamwork and composure throughout. They beat Shrewsbury School, Wrekin, Ellesmere, Newport Grammar, Abraham Darby and Marches. Well done girls!

Catherine's Double Success

Y10’s Catherine recently performed with the National Cadet Band at the Birmingham International Tattoo following her selection last year to the National Band of the RAF Cadets.  She and the other cadets met again ahead of the Tattoo to perfect their routine which involved drumming and marching. Catherine also plays in her local squadron band.

Following her dedication to her local cadets, Catherine has also been nominated for the High Sheriff of Shropshire’s Outstanding Young Citizen Awards. Catherine is an RAF and Army cadet and attends cadets 3 nights a week. Every weekend she practises bagpipes with RAF Cosford Pipes and Drums Band (adults). Well done Catherine, we’re incredibly proud of you!

World Book Day - 5th March 2026

This year the whole school is invited to celebrate World Book Day and come to school dressed as their favourite literary character.
There will be lots going on during the school day culminating in a Mad Hatter's Tea Party for seniors after school.

New York Trip 2026 by Yasmin, Y12

New York, the city that never sleeps. Well we did………just about!

After a seven hour flight our action packed tour of the iconic destination began, We stayed near Times Square, where the neon lights emit perpetual daytime. We walked, talked and laughed our way around the essential highlights. The American Museum of Natural History and its 29 metre long whale, snow in Central Park, the Empire State Building at night, street art south of Manhattan, walking on top of water, and cars on Brooklyn Bridge, bobbing up and down on the Staten Island Ferry, waving to Lady Liberty and visiting The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, where the lift numbers were an expression of their own. To name but a few places.

My highlight was watching Moulin Rouge on Broadway. The song mashups were impressive, the stage design was fabulous and the Broadway workshop the next day was an incredible experience.

If you ever want to escape a wet and windy February half term, I would highly recommend a dynamic trip to New York organised by Mr. Millichamp and Mrs. Sadd. We are grateful to them for giving up their precious half term to show us this extraordinary city.

Sisters Eva and Grace represent Shropshire

Over the half term break sisters Eva and Grace represented the county in the West Midlands Regional Final of the Sportshall League. The league is for indoor athletics with Grace competing in the relay and triple jump, and Eva in the shot put. Both girls put in fantastic performances with Grace’s team coming second in the relay and third overall. Well done girls!

School News

We are delighted to host Amy Forbes-Robertson from ‘ItHappens’ It Happens Education | RSHE for Schools on Wednesday 4th March

She will be working with our Yr 7, 9, 11 and 13 students exploring a range of age-appropriate topics within Relationships and Sex Education. The sessions will look at potential protective factors and where to get reliable, evidence-based information and help if needed. We have worked with Amy at Shrewsbury High School for a number of years, and she is a highly experienced speaker in this field. These calendared sessions are part of our statutory RSE provision.

Please do let us know if you have any further questions about this.
